Foundation in Paediatric Pharmaceutical Care: 4th International Masterclass

Date: 16 -18 October 2014
Location: St Thomas' Hospital, London, SE1 7EH, United Kingdom

Run by Evelina London Children's Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust as part of a Kings Health Partners (KHP) initiative, this masterclass is in collaboration with the International Alliance for Better Medicines for Children and with Global Research in Paediatrics (GRiP).

It is primarily intended for overseas pharmacists with an interest in paediatric pharmaceutical care however UK pharmacists are also encouraged to attend. All applicants must be practising pharmacists but prior experience in paediatric pharmacy is not necessary.

This highly practical masterclass combines interactive lectures, case studies, examples of good practice, group work and Q&A sessions. A highlight of this course is patient case reviews at the hospital bedside in small groups.
Key issues covered include:

        1. Paediatric Population Pharmacokinetics
        2. Safe Purchasing (unlicensed versus licensed)
        3. Paediatric Formulations
        4. Medication errors and Prescription Monitoring
        5. The role of the pharmacy technician in clinical areas
        6. Management of the Chronic Child
        7. Measurement of the critically ill child
        8. Patient case reviews at the hospital bed side in small groups.

Places are limited due to the practical nature of the course, so early booking is strongly advised.
