EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation
Position title: Program Officer for International Programs (or Senior Program Officer depending on qualifications and experience)
Reports to: Director of International Programs
Duties and responsibilities: The International Program Officer’s primary responsibility will be to assist in the development of the international projects developed under the Foundation’s international grant-making program, and to take responsibility for monitoring such projects and working with the grantees.
More specifically the International Program Officer’s duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Project development and assisting grantees on timely and complete proposal submissions;
  • Monitoring and supporting grantees’ project implementation through site visits and review of progress and financial reports, as well as preparing reports and recommendations based on the monitoring and site visits;
  • Preparing reports regarding the quality of data collected in the field and reported to the Foundation, the quality of services and training, use of appropriate equipment and supplies in the projects supported by the Foundation’s grant-making;
  • Convening meetings of grantees and other relevant parties on topics related to the Foundation’s international grant-making interests;
  • Preparing terms of references for consultants and coordinating their work;
  • Preparing briefing memos, trip reports and consultant reports regarding grantee performance, project progress and new opportunities and developments;
  • Updating the Foundation’s program staff on recent technical/medical developments that are relevant to the Foundation’s interest areas;
  • Representing the Foundation at professional meetings and to the broader community of donors, grantees, and other grant-making organizations.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience preferably some of it in the field implementing and managing programs in international family planning and reproductive health;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and expertise in international population and family planning issues;
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum support;
  • Excellent communications written, interpersonal, and presentational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to process large amounts of information in an orderly and organized fashion;
  • Strong initiative and ability to solve problems with little supervision;
  • Ability to design, implement and evaluate new grant-making programs;
  • Ability to manage time, handle pressure, and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, and to attend weekend meetings and conferences.
