After 80 years, the IRC is in transition, preparing to meet the challenges of the next decade. Under new leadership, and with a strategy refresh underway, the IRC seeks a Vice President, Development who can meet the demands of a changing , fund-raising landscape and imaginatively and creatively bring new fund-raising thinking to the IRC. The position requires ambition, drive and broad perspective.

The VP, Development crafts a vision for and delivers on strategies to raise $30 million + through philanthropic support from major donors, and from and with members of the IRC Board of Directors and Overseers.  The Vice President works directly with donors and prospective donors, directs a team of 12+ fundraising professionals, and collaborates with other leaders in Revenue to raise resources among leadership level audiences.  The Vice President also works closely with the IRC’s senior leadership to shape funding priorities.

Major Responsibilities:
  • With the SVP, craft fundraising strategies and deliver on strategies for growth of current revenue, multi-year, and planned gifts.
  • Collaborate with the IRC’s leadership, including staff, Board, and Overseers to advance fundraising for IRC.
  • Work directly with members of the Board and Overseers to invite individuals within their circles of influence to the IRC.
  • Lead fundraising team of 12+ professionals; refine structure and priorities of team as needed to advance IRC’s fundraising priorities; foster conducive environment for attracting and retaining quality fundraisers.
  • Develop pipeline of candidates for the Board from IRC’s leadership level donors.
  • Reimagine and develop new funding audiences and work in partnership with colleagues throughout the Revenue group to create and enhance strategies to attract new donors to the IRC family.
  • Formulate funding ideas and messages to attract, retain, and increase support from top donors and prospects, collaboratively with Senior Vice President, , and other key leaders, and with input from frontline fundraisers.
  • Maintain fluency in trends in philanthropy; guide the IRC through changes in fundraising environment.
  • Develop and manage budget; achieve revenue and expense targets.

Job Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Minimum:  Bachelor’s Degree
    • Preferred:  Master’s Degree
  • Work Experience:
    • 10-12 years of relevent senior experience in managerial and leadership role in development or a specific area of fundraising.
  • Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
    • Minimum:
      • Track-record of closing 6-, 7-, and 8-figure gifts.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead a sophisticated fundraising team and work with staff at multiple levels.
      • Track-record of creating and managing expense and revenue budgets.
      • Ability to promote collaboration and productivity in a pleasing and creative work environment.
    • Preferred:
      • Decision-making skills in changing environment; ability to adapt, plan for and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.
      • Positive attitude, sense of humor.
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to work with Board members, donors, and others with equanimity, to garner respect, to demonstrate confidence and communicate with candor.
      • Sound judgment in maintaining confidentiality of donor information.
      • Passion for the IRC’s mission.
  • Licenses or Certifications:
    • Memberships in professional associations helpful in being able to recruit (ex. Women in Development, AFP)
  • Language Skills:
    • None required, other languages a plus.
