Nutrition Advisor/Specialist- IMA World Tanzania

Job Description

IMA is currently seeking candidates for a program to support interventions designed to reduce the prevalence of stunting among children under the age of five. The anticipated DFID-funded five year program in Tanzania will support the Ministry of Health (MOH) in five regions and will specifically aim to 1) support interventions to build knowledge, change attitudes, strengthen practice and expand services in order to prevent low birth weight and stunting 2) retrain facility and community resource persons to ensure community engagement 3) deliver overall nutrition components 4) build capacity for planning, programming, budgeting and financial management to sustainably address stunting. This position will involve devising, coordinating, implementing and reporting on the impact of program activities pertaining to the aspects of nutrition in the specified regions which will be encompassed by this program.
Duties:
  • Supervise and support nutrition programming activitiesand technical aspects of this program
  • Ensure use of standardized protocols, policies and guidelines, as prescribed by DFID , the Ministry of Health and UNICEF
  • Ensure that all nutrition activities are consistent with established best practices
  • Ensure appropriate support to the field sites where the program is implemented through regular visits
  • Coordinate with the program implementation team to provide DFID, UNICEF, and all local stakeholders with programmatic updates
  • Review progress of program objectives and targets in collaboration with the program managers
  • Monitor evolving needs of the specific communities being targeted and adjust programmatic priorities as necessary
  • Review technical aspects of internal and external reporting prepared by program managers
  • Provide ongoing training and further technical support to field coordinators and managers
The position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:
  • MD, PhD and/or relevant post-graduate degree (MPH, MSc) in nutrition
  • At least 10 years of professional experience
  • Understanding of global nutrition and child health policy and context
  • Established reputation in the field of nutrition and child health programming
  • Ability to train and build capacity of regional-level staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Regional experience and/or in the Tanzania context is strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel within the country, region, and internationally as needed
