ANNOUNCEMENT (Re-advertised)
The Mwanza
Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) based at the National Institute for Medical Research campus in Mwanza, Tanzania is a
collaborative research unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine and the National Institute for Medical Research. The mission of the
Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit is to contribute to improving health through
the development and evaluation of interventions against HIV and other health
problems by conducting research, including clinical trials, to the highest
international standards; to enhance the capacity to carry out such research in
Tanzania and the East African region; and to contribute to the translation of
research findings into health policy. MITU is currently collaborating with other international research partners and
the World Health Organization to prepare and implement a one-year multicentre
clinical trial to test the safety and
immunogenicity of a promising vaccine candidate with the aim to prevent
infectious diseases. The study will be conducted with healthy volunteers. The Unit is now
inviting applications from motivated and suitably qualified candidates to fill
the following positions:
1.
Medical Officers- (2 posts)
Specific responsibilities
·
Assisting
the trial manager to prepare study documents including source documents and
standard operating procedures
·
Providing
study information to potential participants
·
Carrying
out clinical examinations and completing source documents according to standard
operating procedures
·
Providing
clinical management for patients in case of unexpected adverse events and
referring those who cannot be managed at the research clinic
·
Soliciting,
completing, and reporting adverse events
·
Checking
for completeness of source documents at the clinic before data entry
·
Resolving
all data queries arising from data processing
- Contributing
to the preparation of various study reports
·
Performing
any other trial-related activities as may be requested by the investigators
Essential qualifications
- A medical degree from a
recognized University and
- Completion of 1 year
clinical internship in a recognized hospital
- Excellent written and oral
communication skills in English
- Commitment to working as
part of a multidisciplinary research team
Desirable qualifications
- A
postgraduate training in public health, epidemiology or vaccinology
- Substantial experience in clinical
trials or other clinical research
- Previous GCP training
- Computer literacy
Terms
of employment:
This is a full-time position which will be for upto 1 year
Renumerations: Salary will be
provided according to MITU scales
